Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:), which rose 3.11% or 0.19 points to trade at 6.29 at the close. Teranga Gold Corp (TSX:) added 1.62% or 0.24 points to end at 15.04 and Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:) was up 1.54% or 0.22 points to 14.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:), which lost 10.00% or 2.03 points to trade at 18.28 in late trade. Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:) declined 7.85% or 3.73 points to end at 43.76 and Celestica Inc. (TSX:) shed 6.37% or 0.69 points to 10.14.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 822 to 250 and 124 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.34% or 6.60 to $1938.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.43% or 0.18 to hit $41.33 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.97% or 0.43 to trade at $44.00 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.57% to 0.7621, while CAD/EUR fell 0.58% to 0.6428.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 92.752.
